Case #1 – Leading Financial
Services Company
Assignment - A
leading financial services company spent $1.25
million in a major organizational development
effort to improve the leadership skills and
abilities of its management force. While all
outward appearances dictated that the program
had been an overwhelming success, senior management
wanted to examine the impact of the program
in greater detail.
Approach -
A study was initiated to investigate the impact
of the program on individual manager performance
and organizational performance as a whole.
Implementing the study involved the design
of four custom survey instruments and four
randomly selected sample groups. Throughout
the year-long project, BRI administered and
coordinated all aspects of the undertaking,
conducted descriptive and inferential data
analysis, and provided a final written report
with recommendations and conclusions.
Result -
The results of this project have since been
used by senior management to streamline and
improve subsequent organizational change efforts.
In addition, the project has recently been
incorporated into organizational change efforts
being initiated by the parent company.
Case #2 – Major Telecommunications
Provider
Assignment -
Upon deregulation, a major long-distance telephone
provider went through a number of massive
organizational changes in its attempts to
become a leaner structure capable of competing
against a host of new, aggressive service
providers. As they attempted to ready the
organization for competition, a gamut of poorly
planned changes backfired, causing widespread
customer dissatisfaction as well as a multitude
of internal problems and issues.
Approach - BRI
became involved with a large-scale project
which investigated employee productivity and
satisfaction, organizational structure and
competitiveness, and customer satisfaction.
Result -
Overall, this project identified a number
of problem areas which enabled executive management
to take corrective action.
